ABOUT SCOOTER!
Scooter Hayes is not just a storyteller, he's a story-YELLER! Crafted with humor, manic rhythm, and oodles of wackiness, Scooter's stories send his audience to an enchanting world of imagination and discovery. His style has been labeled as non-traditional, pioneering, hysterical, and action packed. Scooter doesn't spin yarns. Never did learn how to sew. He does, however, slang stories, songs, and poems in a playful, unique, hip, and hilarious fashion. Scooter will capture the heart, delight the soul and tickle the funny bone of children of all ages.
Scooter Hayes graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. He has been storytelling professionally for over four years at elementary schools and libraries across California and North Carolina. Scooter currently resides in Wilmington, North Carolina. He has experience as a stand-up comedian, radio talk show host, children's recreational leader and literacy consultant. When Scooter is not telling stories, he enjoys running, skimboarding, surfing, writing and playing the harmonica.
"When I was a child, I used to hate reading. I would rather play kickball or video games with my spare time than pick up a book and read. I think a lot of children today share that same feeling. They would rather play than read.
That's where I come in. I perform stories in a unique, hip, hilarious and most importantly playful style. I make the usual trip to the local library or media center sincerely fun.
When children can laugh, play and feel the excitement that stories have to offer, they are absolutely going to check out a book and explore the joy of reading."
